Business and Property Owners help identify strengths and concerns

The meeting held on Thursday, September 28, 2023, was the first formal opportunity for members of the business community to participate in the visioning discussion for Wabash Avenue.

Business and property owners who are immediately adjacent to the Wabash Avenue corridor, or are within a reasonable distance, were invited to attend the meeting through a direct invitation sent by the City of Terre Haute. In total 16 individuals signed in using the meeting sign-in sheets.

There was an introductory presentation offered at the beginning of the meeting session to orient participants to the project, process, and event-specific activities. Following the presentation, participants were encouraged to visit three activity stations at their own pace.

Each station had opportunities for feedback. The open house featured three key station topics:

  1. Future Facilities: The future facilities exercise asked participants to indicate what types of vehicular, bicycle, or pedestrian infrastructure they desired along the corridor. Example facilities were shown using images, and participants were able to add comments using Post-it notes.

  2. Future Activities: The future activities exercise asked participants to indicate what types of programs and/ or events they would like to see facilitated along the corridor. Example activities were shown using images, and participants were able to add comments using Post-it notes.

  3. Strengths and Concerns: This exercise allowed participants to identify corridor strengths and concerns by marking areas and items of interest along the Wabash Avenue corridor. The station included a large-scale corridor map that spanned from US 41 to 11th Street. Project team members were available at this station to have detailed discussions on items of concern and interest.
